The IPCES Addressable Fire Heat Detector

For use in potentially explosive environments

The addressable fire heat detector IPCES is intended for application in dangerously explosive production facilities as well as tank parks.

The built-in digital controller allows arranging the needed number of detectors on one loop circuit. This is a particular actual feature for tying of oil-loading tanks of middle and big dimensions, where dozens and hundreds heat fire detectors have to be installed.

Using the classical detectors TSM with output 4-20 mA, a designer might have to make a choice between two negative aspects.

Heat Detector

In the first case, to provide “addressness”, each detector has to be connected via separate wire. The drawbacks of this circuit are evident; it is not difficult to imagine a cable assembly from hundred of detectors.

Besides that it is inconveniently in respect of assembling, one should take into account that a good heat-protected cable has a considerable price.

The second variant consists in connection of all detectors to one cable or their separation into several groups. This approach allows solving the problem of a great number of cables, but gives birth to another problem.

Since a tank park can cover an area of several square kilometers, it will be very difficult to determine the ignition location exactly and take effective measures for its elimination.

The IPCES addressable fire heat detector with built-in digital controller effectively solves both described problems: sensor data is transmitted via single cable in the form of quantized impulses via the channel RS-485 using protocol Modbus rtu.

From this it follows that the circuit allows:

1) to simplify tying scheme and significantly reduce the extension of communication lines;
2) to increase efficiency and accuracy of ignition center determination, and hence, taking the measures for its elimination.
